The works were commissioned to illustrate a diary with poems by Pablo Neruda to mark his centenary. The artist chose 12 poems from the Nobel Prize winner's main collections, such as "Soneto XVII" (Cien sonetos de amor), "Poema en diez versos" (Crepusculario) and "Puedes bestias" (Canto general). According to the critic Waldemar Sommer, the montage "introduces us into deep feminine intimacy."​​
